The Taping Recorder - Continued

MARATHON TEAM

The Houston Marathon drew so many runners that they had to close registration and the crowds around the course were large, so Houston's largest single athletic event was once again a big success. We want to thank the runners that ran for Taping: Paul Daly, Steve Hasson, Alan Ping, Dena Marks Sokolow, Harry Sokolow, and Valerie Vallot each ran the full marathon; Caroline Montalbano and Angie Ping ran the half marathon, and Anita Simpson ran the 5K. Our sincere thanks to each of these runners for their dedication to their sport and their willingness to help raise funds for Taping!

We also thank the following volunteers that manned our Hoopla Station in front of West University City Hall: Bob & Victoria Bartlett, David Gillmore, Ginger Gish, Ted Pfister, Pat Pilkington, and Carol Pierce. Your efforts were noticed and appreciated by all the full marathon runners.

This may be the last time we field a team for the marathon. We do not raise a lot of money, mostly because we have a hard time attracting runners. Other charities have serious training programs and expectations from their runners, and there are a lot of charities waiting to be an official marathon charity, and while the final decision hasn't been made, we may choose to devote our efforts in other directions. The runners that have been so faithful running for Taping can still do so; we would just not be one of the designated official charities for the marathon.

COMING SOON, TO AUSTIN

Radio Manager Jim Martinez had been working with his counterpart in the Austin radio reading service. As a result of this work, Turning Sight Into Sound radio will soon be used to fill in around the local Austin productions. They currently broadcast a locally produced schedule from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. As soon as some hardware gets put in place the Taping radio service will fill in whenever there is no local programming. El Paso already uses our service and Austin will be another step as we expand our horizons.
